Don't bother trying to convince them of a different point of view or perspective or idea. Even saying their brain could possible do so, they are holding onto that momentary belief like it's the very life force keeping them alive.
The best chance you have is not to convince them of an alternative view but rather to distract them with a different thought. Bc once they detach only then is it easier for them to have a different thought.
On the counter to this, be prepared to be flexible yourself bc in mid sentence they can change their perspective and by time you respond they will have forgotten they made the original argument and could be arguing a counter thought with no clue about why you are thinking they said something different.
.and even horrified if you suggest that they thought the other way..
